A Million Thanks for a New Heart
Eleven years ago, Alfred Mundt’s years of heart problems came to a head at The University of Toledo Medical Center. After a number of heart attacks, bypass surgeries and heart devices, Mr. Mundt finally needed a heart transplant.
With his wife, Adela, by his side, Mr. Mundt was able to get a new heart after spending six weeks on the transplant waiting list. “My daughter was going to get married around the same time,” recalls Mr. Mundt. “The cardiologist who worked with me during and following the transplant, made sure I was able to walk her down the aisle.”
These days, Mr. Mundt notes that his new heart is working well. His wife credits the UT Medical Center. “There are a lot of special people at UT as well as in this community,” says Ms. Mundt. “And we wanted to do something for the community since they have done so much for us.”
That is why the Mundts recently donated $1 million to the UT Medical Center to revive a heart transplant program that will complement the new Heart and Vascular Center. The UT Medical Center will also be able to add a cardiologist specializing in congestive heart failure and heart transplants.
Thanks to the Mundts' big hearts and generosity, the community will have access to a heart transplant facility. “The building is state-of-the-art and the doctors are the finest,” says Ms. Mundt. “This is the best thing that could happen anywhere, and I am so happy it happened in Toledo.”
